GM Fuel Injectors

GM fuel injectors are components of the intake manifold that directly inject fuel into the intake valve. Fuel injectors are actually electronically-controlled fuel sprayers that spray pressurized oil mist into the combustion chambers via the air intake manifold. The fine mist fuel injected by the fuel injectors is precisely controlled so that no fuel will be wasted. Fuel injectors replaced the function of the automobile carburetor. Fuel injectors are electronically controlled by the automobile computer. The automobile computer automatically adjusts the amount of fuel that is sprayed by the fuel injectors in response to the mechanical needs of the engine.

A GM fuel injector is simply an electronically-controlled valve that releases pressurized fuel. It is supplied with pressurized fuel by the fuel pump of the engine. The fuel pump is a simple camshaft-driven centrifugal pump that draws fuel from the fuel tank. When the vanes of the pump rotate, a vacuum state is generated inside the pump. This void that is left inside the pump is filled by the fuel from the fuel tank. Atmospheric pressure pushes the fuel to rush to the fuel pump. The fuel is then precisely injected into the engine by the fuel injectors.

A fuel injector is capable of closing and opening multiple times in a second. When current flows into the injector, an electromagnet moves a plunger inside, thereby opening the valve. Consequently, the pressurized fuel is allowed to flow through a tiny nozzle on the tip of the injector.
